There was a Wang 2200 Computer (1974) on Kijiji Calgary for over a month. I really didn't need anymore junk, but I started to read about it when I was bored at work and was surprised to find they boot to BASIC. I started feeling bad that no one wanted it as the weeks went by. I finally gave in and offered the guy $25 for it last week.
The display only had a horizontal line across the screen when I got it. It was just a dirty horizontal control potentiometer. I had it working in 5 minutes.
The BASIC OS checks each line as you enter it. You can't enter a bad line. This is a bit odd but I guess, but when you type RUN you know there won't be any syntax errors in your program.
The bad thing is this model is the disk drive version, not the built in tape drive and I did not get the disk drive with it. Any program will be gone when I turn it off. I guess I could look for an external drive or tape unit but not much of a chance finding one for what I am willing to pay.
It is a bit dirty and stinks like stale smoke. Guess I will clean it up, read about it in my spare time and write some small programs. I am sure I will get $25 worth of hobby entertainment out of it. Actually, probably the name alone will give me $25 worth of Wang jokes..
I did write the standard "10 PRINT "Hello World "; 20 GOTO 10" program and was surprised how fast it is. Much faster than a VIC20 would display this same program and this machine was made in 1974.
