Another little project in progress. I've done about all I can do without parts that haven't arrived yet.
Just a quick plug here for the shop I bought this little unit in.
My wife and I took a road trip to Edmonton, just for a little get away. A fellow, who has a YouTube channel I follow, owns an antique shop in Edmonton. Because I follow the channel, I thought it might be fun to check out his store. I was right, it's a great little shop full to the roof with a little bit everything you can imagine and the owner is really nice guy !
So if you get a chance, check out the shop 'Curiosity Inc.' in Edmonton or for a little relaxing entertainment, check out the Curiosity Inc YouTube Channel.
On with the show.
This little record player started production in 1955, production did not last long because they were not big sellers. Later in their production life they were promoted as an inexpensive children's record player, with artwork from the children's TV show Ding Dong School stuck on them.
This unit was a normal production unit, the motor is dated 1955. It had a couple of large cracks in the plastic body That I have repaired. Originally it was a glossy black colour. After repairing the cracks, I needed to give it a coat of paint to fully hide the repairs. I decided, for fun, to add a little more colour.
The mechanism is very simple and was easy to service, the only part it could use is a new idler wheel. The rubber on the original is still reasonably soft and grippy (is that really a word....), but not very smooth, so it creates some rumble noise.
Overall though, I would say it looks and sounds pretty good !
