So I thought, just for fun, I'd post a few pictures of some of my other junk... or are they treasures.... I guess that depends on your point of view. They were junk for sure when I got them. On with the show. This is a RCA Victrola 45-EY-3 45 rpm record player. Built in 3 tube amp and a RCA RP-190 turntable. These units hit the retail market in 1950. I've rebuilt the amplifier and turntable, made some repairs to the case and cleaned and polished it. A new cartridge, needle and tonearm wiring. The end result is record player that sounds pretty good, especially considering it's 70ish years old.

This is a Coronado model 43-8356c. It was sold to me as a 1952 model but I haven't been able to confirm that year yet. One of the things that appealed to me is that this is a Canadian made radio. These units were sold exclusively in Macleods hardware stores in western Canada. Some cleaning, some polishing and some electrical restoration and I have a great radio to add to the collection of goodies. You can see most of the decal on the front of the radio is missing,I have a new, reproduction, decals on order for it, but it takes a while to get them.

This radio has a personal significance to me, this was my fathers radio. All my growing years, dad would come in from morning chores and listen to this radio while having his morning cup of coffee. It's made by Longines Symphonette and dates from the late 60's or very early 70's. It needed quite a bit of work, but it was totally worth it to me.

This is a 1950 Canadian Westinghouse model 507 radio. It needed lots of cleaning, I suspect it spent several years in a workshop or garage. One day I'll have to spend a little more time on the knobs, there is still a tiny bit of paint in the grooves.

1952 RCA 2-ES-38, 4 speed automatic record changer. This is a work in progress, it was a complete basket case when I got it. The amplifier is now rebuilt and working and most of the mechanism has been cleaned and lubed. I still need to do more work to mechanism, the part that determines the size of the next record on the changer isn't working right yet. It also needs the cartridge and needle changed. The outside is pretty rough as well, not sure what I'm going to do about it yet. I've never had to repair/replace fake leather before.

Another RCA !!!! I seem to have a like for old RCA equipment.... 1954/55 RCA X-110 radio. Another Canadian made unit, this radio boasted about having 2 speakers, probably as an answer to the rise in popularity of FM radio. This radio has been in a box for a while because I couldn't get it to work. The tuner works but the amplifier doesn't, there is just a tiny amount of sound when a station is tuned in. I love the look of this radio and I am determined to figure it out, but I decided to put it away for a while once I started to get frustrated with it. I've been doing some reading and as soon as there is some room on the workbench for it, I'll be back at it.

A couple of clock radios, just to add a twist. These radios are all from 40's, 50's and 60's.

Just in time for summer ..... The gold painted fan arrived in a box of broken pieces. The shipper packed it well, but I think maybe the courier tossed it out of the plane as it flew over my house. Originally it was a bland beige colour. It has no markings of any kind to indicate a brand of date of manufacture. I'm guessing mid 1960's, modern plastic body but a cage that lets fingers in ! After gluing the puzzle of pieces together, lots of polishing and servicing the motor, I thought the gold might look good. I think it looks good. The other fan was made by Dominion Electric company and dates from 1951. I will be restoring this fan, no custom paint ! And yes, they both work.

The next big project is to try to figure out some kind of display case for my 'junk'. I have a sort of a plan in my head.
Hopefully I can make it a workable reality.

Wow.. this is an impressive collection you have. Those radios are awesome. Is this stuff you've collected over years or have you been hunting for them recently?

Wow.. this is an impressive collection you have. Those radios are awesome. Is this stuff you've collected over years or have you been hunting for them recently? Both really, some has been with me for quite a few years, some have arrived recently. I picked up some of those radios recently from a fellow looking to clean up his habit of over collecting. I try to be at least a little picky about what gets added to the collection, but that's just because I have to much already. After I get some kind of display case or shelving built, I might have to thin things out a bit ... maybe.....

Pretty soon you'll be catching up to Paul from Mr. Carlson's Lab with all those radios... I don't think I have that much space, but it's turned into a nice little collection. I've amassed a pretty good collection of 45 rpm records now as well, to play on my RCA 45 players.
